The idea for this project came from an old Ikea coat rack I found, abandoned in a corner and a bit yellowed by time. What immediately drew me to this structure was the fabric - a kind of waterproof material -and the plastic hoops used to give it its shape.
I thus decided to reuse the material and to transform it in a kind of coat. I created loose sleeves stopping at the elbow, and opened the front, leaving a possibility of movement, as the goal was ultimately to keep the filmy aspect of the object.
L’idée de ce projet m’est venue en trouvant un vieux portemanteau Ikea, abandonné dans un coin et un peu jauni avec le temps. Ce qui m’a immédiatement attiré dans cette structure était le tissu d’une matière imperméable, et les arceaux en plastique utilisés tout en long pour lui donner sa forme. J’ai donc décidé de réutiliser la matière et d’en faire comme un manteau, en créant des manches amples, s’arrêtant au niveau du coude, et de l’ouvrir sur le devant, pour laisser une possibilité de mouvement, car le but était finalement de garder le côté vaporeux de la matière.
I chose to do all the assembly by using only gold safety pins, and just a ribbon at the neck as for a cape. Therefore, their usefulness becomes as decoration, and the simplicity and beauty of the tool is highlighted.
J’ai choisi d’effectuer tout l’assemblage uniquement avec des épingles à nourrice dorées, et juste un ruban au niveau du col, comme pour une cape. Ainsi leur utilité devient aussi décoration, et la simplicité et la beauté de l’outil est mise en valeur.
The result is an hybrid "garment", between a coat and a dress, which undulates and follows the silhouette as it moves through the hoops that hold. The product is finally nicer when in motion, fitting lightly, like a ghost.
Le résultat est donc un « vêtement » hybride, entre le manteau et la robe, qui ondule et suit la silhouette qui se déplace, grâce aux arceaux qui le tienne. Le produit est finalement plus joli lorsqu’il est en mouvement, et qu’il habille de façon légère, comme un fantôme.
